Trump and Zuckerberg Meet at Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida

Date:

On Wednesday, Donald Trump and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg met for dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. An unexpected gathering between two figures with a complex history. This meeting marks a significant shift, considering Trump was banned from Facebook after the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, though his account was reinstated earlier this year.

Stephen Miller, Trump’s deputy chief of staff for his upcoming second term, shared insights into the meeting. He explained that Zuckerberg, like other business leaders, is eager to back Trump’s economic agenda. Miller also highlighted Zuckerberg’s interest in supporting Trump’s vision for a “national renewal” under his leadership.

Meta confirmed the dinner took place, noting that Zuckerberg had been invited to discuss the incoming administration’s plans with Trump and his team. While Zuckerberg has not publicly endorsed a presidential candidate for 2024. He has softened his stance toward Trump in recent months.

Notably, he praised Trump’s response to an assassination attempt earlier this year, calling it “badass”. And expressed frustration with the Biden administration’s influence over Facebook’s COVID-19 content moderation.

Trump’s Mixed Remarks on Zuckerberg

Despite this thawing of relations, Trump has continued to criticize Zuckerberg. In July, Trump used his social media platform, Truth Social, to threaten election fraudsters with imprisonment. Even referencing Zuckerberg with the nickname “ZUCKERBUCKS”

The dinner with Zuckerberg also comes at a time when other tech figures, such as Elon Musk, are increasingly involved in Trump’s political orbit. Musk has donated an estimated $200 million through his political action committee to support Trump’s election campaign and has spent significant time at Mar-a-Lago. Trump also appointed Musk to lead an advisory panel focused on government efficiency.
