WalletHub Ranks College Station, Texas, Among the Best in College Towns and Cities of the U.S.

College Station, Texas, has earned a top spot among America’s premier college towns, according to WalletHub. In its recent evaluation, WalletHub placed the university at No. 4 in the small city category for college towns. Also, with fewer than 125,000 residents, a position it shares with Missoula, Montana.

With its No. 1 ranking in the state and an impressive No. 23 ranking overall, CS proves itself as a dynamic and appealing location for students from across the nation.

WalletHub’s report considered over 400 U.S. cities, assessing them on a wide range of factors, from academic quality and economic opportunities to cost of living and safety. As Chip Lupo, an analyst for WalletHub, explains, a great college town can make all the difference in a student’s experience.

“Cities with low costs of living, plenty of activities, and large student populations can make the college experience significantly more enjoyable and less stressful”, Lupo noted. A robust economic environment also benefits students by providing ample job opportunities during and after their studies.

Texas A&M University and College Station

In addition to the city’s appeal, CS is home to Texas A&M University, which further enhances the town’s reputation with its strong academic credentials and recent achievements. Texas A&M was named the top university in the territory. Plus, secured the No. 11 spot among public universities nationally in The Wall Street Journal’s 2023 rankings.

This recognition extends beyond general academic standing. Texas A&M’s College of Engineering achieving a top-10 ranking for public engineering schools in the U.S., according to U.S. News & World Report.

The university’s Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering is considered the best in the nation, while the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, which operates within both the College of Engineering and College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, has earned the top spot nationally.

Furthermore, Texas A&M led the nation in engineering research expenditures in 2023, allocating $444.7 million, underscoring the university’s strong commitment to advancing research and innovation.
