CEO of Global Media Investment
As the head of a technology company, I’ve learned that innovation is not measured only by what a tool can do, but by the trust it generates among those who use it. At Global Media Investment, we work with artificial intelligence (AI) to solve complex problems in sectors such as commerce, data analysis, tourism and personalized services. However, we’ve never lost sight of the fact that any technological development must be managed ethically and transparently to create real value.
This is where the concept of AI TRiSM (AI Trust, Risk, and Security Management) comes in. It combines risk management, security, ethics, and transparency in the development of artificial intelligence systems. For us, AI TRiSM is more than just a set of rules; it’s a daily practice we apply to all our projects.
The Pillars of AI TRiSM Go Far Beyond Security
AI TRiSM is not just about avoiding technical risks, it involves managing every aspect of AI development to ensure that systems are fair, secure, and ethical. From our experience, these are the essential pillars every company should apply:
- Transparency: Explain how models work and which data is used.
- Accountability: Ensure systems can be audited and corrected in case of errors.
- Security: Protect data and prevent cyberattacks.
- Privacy Management: Comply with data protection regulations such as GDPR and local laws.
- Ethics and Fairness: Minimize bias and ensure fair results for all users.
These principles are not abstract concepts; they are practical tools that we apply in data analysis projects, market forecasting and process automation. Adopting them has undoubtedly required investing time and resources on internal audits and continuous development, but the benefits far outweigh the effort.
The Risks of Ignoring Trust in AI
Failing to apply these principles can have serious consequences. We’ve seen companies face legal issues and reputational damage due to failures in their AI systems. From discriminatory models in credit scoring to biased algorithms in hiring processes, mismanagement of AI serves as a constant reminder of the importance of AI TRiSM.
In 2018, I followed closely the case of Amazon, when its AI-powered recruitment system displayed a concerning gender bias. The algorithm automatically penalized resumes containing words like “woman” or terms related to female-associated activities because it was trained on historical data dominated by male profiles. From my experience leading technological developments, I know these types of errors are not simple technical failures –they result from a lack of proper data management and continuous auditing.
A similar situation occurred in 2019 with Apple and its Apple Card credit service, developed in partnership with Goldman Sachs. The system was accused of granting significantly lower credit limits to women compared to men, even when they shared similar financial profiles. As a business leader, I understand that managing risks and overseeing algorithms is not optional. The lack of adequate controls can erode customer trust and irreversibly damage a brand’s reputation. Both cases remind us that even the most advanced technology requires ethical and transparent management.
In our sector, we don’t just compete for technological results but also for market trust. Every project we undertake carries a commitment to be transparent and fair because we understand that technology changes not only businesses but also lives.
An Opportunity for Mexico
In Mexico, the development of AI-based technologies is growing quickly, but regulations still a work in progress. The recent proposal for the Digital Data Protection Law is an important step, but specific standards for artificial intelligence have yet to be defined.
At Global Media Investment, we believe companies should stay ahead of regulation by adopting AI TRiSM practices before they become mandatory. This not only enhances their competitiveness but also ensures responsible technological growth.
For us, AI TRiSM is not just about meeting legal requirements but about leading with ethics and vision. Artificial intelligence can transform industries, but only if managed with integrity and purpose.
The future of artificial intelligence lies not only in its technical capabilities but in how we choose to manage it. AI TRiSM is an opportunity to lead this transformation with transparency and responsibility. And at Global Media Investment, we are determined to stay at the forefront of that change.
