But introduces a new $7.50 fee during vehicle registration. For new vehicles, a $16.75 fee will be applied for a two-year period.
The revenue generated will be used to support programs like the Texas Mobility Fund, general state revenue, and initiatives to improve air quality. However, emissions testing will still be mandatory in several counties. That includes larger urban areas like Dallas, Houston, and El Paso.
Property Tax Breaks for Homeowners
Homeowners in Texas will see relief through the Property Tax Relief Act (Senate Bill 2). Which reduces school district tax rates and increases state funding to support the operations of local school districts.
While parts of the law took effect in 2023, 2025 marks the full implementation, aiming to ease the tax burden for property owners. Also, ensure schools continue to function smoothly.
Enhanced Control Over Personal Data
Texans will have more control over their personal data starting in 2025, thanks to the Texas Data Privacy & Security Act (House Bill 4). The law places stricter limits on how businesses can collect, sell, and process personal data. T
exans will now be able to access, correct, and delete their personal information stored by companies, while businesses must secure consent before collecting sensitive data. These measures aim to increase transparency and data security across the state.
Improved Access to the Judicial System
Texas is also taking steps to improve its judicial system with House Bill 3474, which creates new courts and districts in counties like Bastrop, Brazos, and Collin.
This law will make it easier for residents in these areas to access the courts and reduce travel time for legal matters. Additionally, the bill clarifies the powers of notaries, allowing them to conduct depositions and making legal processes more efficient.
