Texas has solidified its position as an economic leader through its key initiatives, including space technology. Greg Abbott, governor of Texas, spoke about the state’s achievements in 2024.
The government welcomed the Texas Space Commission at the beginning of 2024. This entity drives the state’s leadership in aerospace activities and space exploration.
The organization chaired by Gwen Griffin has received more than 200 proposals amounting to over 2.9 billion dollars. Private, public, and nonprofit companies, as well as government entities and higher education institutions, have been some of those seeking to join the commission.
Texas, the future and space technology
The majority of the proposals of space technology were submitted in mid-November and this large volume are being fully vetted by the newly augmented compliance staff before they can be released to the board of the Texas Space Commission for consideration.
Griffin said that the high level of interest is indicative of the need and enthusiasm for growing the space economy and technology in Texas for the benefit of USA.
Until late January or early February 2025 will be announced grant awards, cause “makes sense to tap the brakes to make sure we get it right and give every proposal due consideration”.
Texas, “the starting point to Mars”
To highlight the importance of investment in space technology, governor Greg Abbott said that Texas is the starting point to Mars and the future of space exploration.
The Abbott administration will seek to boost the state’s leadership in aerospace activities, integrating industries into the Texas economy.
In this regard, it will launch the Small Business Freedom Council program to facilitate the growth of small businesses.
